The Junior League of Tyler, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Holly Hightower is an active member of the JLT and this year is serving as chair for their annual rummage sale, Spring Sweep 2012~Bargains, Deals, and Benefits. The Spring Sweep fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Harvey Convention Center in Tyler will be filled with slightly used merchandise offering bargain prices on clothing, household items, furniture, electronics, baby items, and much more. The JLT will also hold a Spring Sweep kickoff luncheon on Friday, February 10, also at Harvey Convention Center, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The luncheon will feature a style show and silent auction.
“Spring Sweep benefits more than those who purchase high-quality bargain items. The League is able to use the money raised at the rummage sale to assist their outreach programs and other not-for-profit agencies that help so many in our community,” Mrs. Hightower said.
Outside of her service to the JLT, Mrs. Hightower is a Junior Achievement volunteer and serves on the Greater Tyler Association of Realtors board of directors. She is a member of Keep Whitehouse Beautiful and the booster clubs for the Whitehouse band, athletics, and choir. Mrs. Hightower was the 2011 recipient of the Chuck Gregory Rookie Realtor of the Year award. She is a past member of the Texas Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the Texas Real Estate Political Action Committee. Mrs. Hightower has also served as a tutor for the Literacy Council of Tyler.
“My philosophy of volunteerism comes from Acts 20:35,” Mrs. Hightower said, “ ‘In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
Born in Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Hightower has lived in the Tyler area for 20 years. She and her husband, Gerald, have been married three years and are the parents of Will, 14, and Whitney, 12. Mrs. Hightower attended Germantown High School in Germantown, Tennessee. She is a graduate of Tyler Junior College and the Tyler Real Estate College. The Hightower family attends LIFEbridge Fellowship Church.
“I enjoy being a volunteer in the Tyler community because it gives me the opportunity to fulfill the needs of others, and in return, I receive personal joy from leaving our community better than I found it,” Mrs. Hightower said.
