As a member of the board of directors for Christian Women’s Job Corps of Tyler (CWJC Tyler), Linda Lesniewski has seen how the organization’s mission to offer job and life skills to women in need has changed the lives of these women and their families. This community program serves women who have a financial need to work but lack the necessary resources for education and training, specifically in the area of job skills.
On Saturday, October 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at 223 East Charnwood Street in Tyler, CWJC Tyler will host their Bouquets of Crouquet Tournament to raise funds for the organization. Along with the genteel game of crouquet, participants will enjoy lunch in Tyler’s beautiful historic district. KVNE’s Mike Harper and CBS 19’s Amanda Roberson will emcee the tournament; and Da’Nae Couch, the current Miss Texas, will introduce each team for competition. Drawings for $50 gift certificates to local restaurants will be held throughout the event.
“CWJC Tyler is excited to be able to bring this Victorian lawn game to Tyler,” said Mrs. Lesniewski. “We hope that along with raising awareness for how our program benefits the community by preparing women to better provide for their personal and family’s financial needs through enhanced job skills, that a renewed interest in this wonderful sport might spring from the event.”
Outside of her service to CWJC Tyler, Mrs. Lesniewski is a current board member and past board chair for Womenary, a theological studies program for women. She volunteers as the general editor for encouraging.com, a Christian blog for women, and volunteers annually with March of Dimes.
“I believe that encouraging and empowering women in my community provides an opportunity to live out my faith in a practical way. By extending myself as a volunteer, I’m able to experience life to the fullest,” Mrs. Lesniewski said.
Born in Jacksonville, Texas, Mrs. Lesniewski has resided in Tyler for 29 years. She and her husband, Gary, have been married for 40 years and are the parents of four adult children, Lori, Nathan, Lisa, and Jonathan. Mrs. Lesniewski is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. She is employed as the Women’s Minister at Green Acres Baptist Church where she and her husband are also members.
“I love living in Tyler because of its civic-minded citizens and the spirit of philanthropy. I believe we’re a community of givers who acknowledge that all we have has been entrusted to us by our Creator. As a result, we are responsible for stewarding it for future generations,” Mrs. Lesniewski said.
