In 2006, the Dean and Hazel Mason Mission House was established, serving approximately 20 families each month. Today, as the Mission House of Bullard and The Christus Medical Clinic, the organization now serves hundreds throughout the year by providing food, clothing, and medical assistance. Dean and Hazel Mason, and a large staff of generous volunteers, have made The Mission House of Bullard and The Christus Medical Clinic a beacon of hope for many in our community that need a helping hand.
“The Mission House serves over 100 families monthly. At the beginning of every school year, school supplies are furnished to needy families, and during Christmas 2011, The Mission House furnished Christmas gifts for 162 children in our community,” Mr. and Mrs. Mason said. “The Christus Medical Clinic served over 500 uninsured people in 2011 with little or no cost to the patient.”
On Monday, April 23, The Annual Mission House and Christus Medical Clinic Golf Tournament will be held at Eagles Bluff Country Club in Bullard. The tournament is open to anyone who would like to play and raises funds to support the outreach of these charities. And then on Monday, April 30, The Annual Mission House and Christus Medical Clinic Games Day will be held at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club and will be a day of Mahjong, Bridge, and Forty-Two. Organized groups of four are welcome to play and everyone is welcome for lunch.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Mason are members of the Bullard Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Mason serves as chair and Mr. Mason serves as vice chair of missions at First United Methodist Church of Bullard. Mr. Mason is also a member of the church’s administrative board.
“When my wife, Hazel, and I met over 15 years ago, Hazel was chair of missions at her church, and I was introduced to missions. After joining FUMC of Bullard in 2001, we became very involved in the mission program and we realized that the needs of people in our community were not being met. From this realization and from our love for people, The Mission House began,” Mr. Mason said.
The Masons, who are East Texas natives, have resided in the Tyler community for 41 years. Mr. Mason attended Tyler Junior College. He holds his Texas Power and Light School Certificate and is retired from the City of Tyler. Mrs. Mason holds her real estate license and cosmetology license and owned Hazel’s Beauty Salon for 39 years before retiring. The Masons are the parents of Pam, Margaret, Marilyn, Phyllis, and Mike.
“We enjoy being a part of the Bullard and Tyler communities and being part of the growth,” the Masons said. “We are thankful for the many volunteers who help us run The Mission House and Christus Medical Clinic.”
