For 32 years, Children’s Village has provided a Christian children’s home that gives healing and hope to neglected children of East Texas. On Saturday, March 24, at Bergfeld Park in Tyler, Children’s Village will hold its largest annual fundraiser, the 2012 Tyler Azalea Trail 10K and 2-Mile Run. The course provides mile after mile of beautiful azaleas, dogwood trees, and spring flowers for runners while the floral wonderland is a photographer’s paradise. Shoppers will enjoy the unique creations available at the Azalea Trail Arts and Crafts Fair also being held at Bergfeld Park.
Claude Henry serves as vice chair for the Children’s Village Board of Directors and is the volunteer coordinator for the 2012 Tyler Azalea Trail 10K and 2-Mile Run. “In 2011, the race had more than 1,300 participants, our highest number ever, and we are hoping that 2012 will be our best year ever,” Mr. Henry said. “We have more than 150 volunteers to help with registration, course set-up, and traffic control. These volunteers and the support of generous donations and sponsors make the race a successful event and fundraiser for Children’s Village.”
Outside of his service to Children’s Village, Mr. Henry is also a member of the Tyler Junior College Scholarship Golf Tournament Committee, the South Tyler Rotary Club Board of Directors, and the Salvation Army Finance Committee.
Mr. Henry said, “I feel that we are all blessed in various ways and should do our part in helping to improve the quality of life and opportunities for those in our community. Being a volunteer in Tyler has allowed me to meet some awesome people and to see firsthand how some of our less fortunate residents are benefitting from the generosity of others.”
Born in Rusk, Texas, Mr. Henry has resided in Tyler for two years. He and his wife, Julie, have been married for 32 years and are the parents of Justin, Aaron, Meredith, and Megan. Mr. Henry earned his bachelor of business administration degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Henry is the executive vice president and manager of the Texas Bank and Trust South Broadway Branch.
“After being away from East Texas for over 35 years, it has been wonderful to come back to such a beautiful area. The residents of Tyler and the surrounding communities are so giving and maintain an optimistic attitude,” Mr. Henry said.
