This academic year, Texas Bank and Trust celebrates its third anniversary of the Student Board of Directors. This group of outstanding high school seniors has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. We are proud to introduce the following 2011-2012 Student Board members:
MEGAN STRNADEL is a senior at Grace Community School and is a member of the National Honor Society. She plays on the varsity softball team, is captain of the varsity basketball team, runs both track and cross-country, and serves as the Cougar Dribblers coach. Megan is a member of the school Chapel Team and is a volunteer with the Tyler Junior Symphony League. She plans to major in economics at Texas A&M University and her future goals include a career in the financial services industry and possibly continue her education to earn a law degree. Megan’s interests and hobbies include playing the guitar, reading, traveling, cooking, and snowboarding. Megan is a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and is the daughter of Leann and Greg Strnadel.
JAVI KIRK, son of Shaleen and Raja Virk, will graduate from All Saints Episcopal School this spring. He serves as vice president of the student body and as secretary of the National Honor Society, and is a member of the varsity debate team. Javi is the yearbook business manager and recycling chairman for the Green club. He is active in the school sports program where he is on both the varsity cross-country and track teams and is manager for the soccer team. Javi plans to major in pre-med and business but has not made a final selection on the university he will attend. His future goals include a private medical practice and eventually invest himself in the business field. Javi’s interests and hobbies are reading, running, serving as a volunteer in the community, and working as a lifeguard.
BRIANA OWENS is a senior at Robert E. Lee High School and is the daughter of Sandra Owens. She is a member of the National Honor Society, has served on student council, and has been a member of Mu Alpha Theta. Briana has received numerous awards as an accomplished musician, on both the piano and violin, and performs with the school orchestra. As a ten-year member of the Girl Scout program, Briana has been awarded perfect attendance each year and is the recipient of the Girl Scout Bronze Award, Silver Award, and Cadette Leadership Award. She is currently working on her Gold Award project which is the highest award in Girl Scouting. Briana’s future plans are to begin school at Tyler Junior College, where she is currently taking dual credit courses, and be a success in her chosen career field.
ROCQUEL PETTIGREW is a senior at John Tyler High School where she serves as historian for the National Honor Society, is student council president, and plays the alto saxophone in the Big Blue marching band. Rocquel has served as a junior volunteer for the East Texas Medical Center. She is a Rotary Club nominee and a member of both Top Teens of America and the United States Achievement Academy. Rocquel plans to major in biology, pre-dental at Stephen F. Austin State University and have a successful career in dentistry. As a member of New Zion Baptist Church, Rocquel serves as a candy striper, is on the youth usher board, and sings in the choir. She is the daughter of Rachelle Marshall-Clark and Emmitt Pettigrew, Jr.
