The Texas Equestrian Gala on Saturday, October 15, will raise funds for Azelway, an organization that brings hope and opportunity to more than 1,000 at-risk Texas children each year. Karen Mayo-Albrecht is working alongside other volunteers to plan the event and to support the Azelway mission of providing a home, school, and treatment opportunities to children and their families from a faith-based perspective.

“This is the third year that I’ve worked with Azelway,” said Mrs. Mayo-Albrecht. “The organization gives children direction in an environment based on trust and communication. I’ve seen success stories firsthand which continue to occur because of Azelway.”

The Texas Equestrian Gala will take place at the Texas Rose Horse Park in Tyler. This family-friendly event will feature the Hunter/Jumper Horse Show. Guests can enjoy a Texas wine and cheese tasting, exciting live and silent auctions, a cupcake sweepstakes, an array of food, and entertainment. A Dream Room Benefit Drawing will also be held and includes a fabulous remodel and design of a room in your home.

“The high energy of the committee has allowed us to raise a substantial amount of money over the years for Azelway, while keeping the cost of the event low. Many volunteers come together to make this event a success, and while my part is very small, I am proud to be involved,” Mrs. Mayo-Albrecht said.

Born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Mrs. Mayo-Albrecht has lived in Tyler for five years. She and her husband, Richard, have been married for 32 years and are the parents of two adult children, Bonnie Culpepper and Ryan Albrecht. Mrs. Mayo-Albrecht holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Humanities. She is a retired school teacher, having taught high school English for 28 years in the Clear Creek Independent School District in League City, Texas. Outside of her service to Azelway, Mrs. Mayo-Albrecht also supports the East Texas Food Bank.

Mrs. Mayo-Albrecht said, “I believe that being a positive part of society means supporting it in a number of ways; even a small action committed by many can create energy for major accomplishment.”
