Parent Services Center was founded in 1989 and exists to strengthen and support families and our community. It is a local, pro-active, non-profit United Way agency which provides parents and those who work with children the educational opportunities, resources, and support necessary to raise children who can become healthy, contributing members of society.
Howard and Melissa Charba understand the importance of the resources the Parent Services Center provides. While raising four children, it was determined that two of their sons had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). One of their daughters also suffers from Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. They know that it would be a hardship for parents and caregivers to not be able to turn to the agency to learn skills through educational programs that encourage and support families in overcoming challenges.
The Charbas are encouraging the community to help raise funds to support the Parent Services Center by participating in the Dodge Ball Tournament to be held on October 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the gymnasium at First Christian Church in Tyler. It promises to be the most exciting family event ever put together by the agency. A drawing for a chance to make a hole-in-one basket will be held giving the participant the opportunity to win a 2011 Harley Davidson Heritage SoftailR Classic. In addition, many other raffle prizes will be given away as well as prizes to the winning teams.
“We always say that you should give what you can, when you can,” said the Charbas. “We know there are many great causes in this community, and we wish we could help them all. Although that is impossible, we believe that if you do everything to glorify God, you can’t go wrong.”
Mr. and Mrs. Charba are the owners of Time Square Cinema in Tyler. They belong to the National Association of Theater Owners and the Tyler Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Charba is a past member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Texas Nurses Association.
Mr. and Mrs. Charba were both born in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Charba has lived in the Tyler community for eight years, and Mrs. Charba has lived in the Lindale and Tyler area for 33 years. They have been married for five years and are the parents of four adult children, Cortney, Jeremy, Cari, and Blake. Mr. Charba is a graduate of Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas, and attended Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts. Mrs. Charba is a graduate of Lindale High School in Lindale, Texas, and received her degree in nursing from Tyler Junior College. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in nursing education. The Charbas are members of Faith Community Church.
“Tyler is a beautiful place to live, and the people are friendly. Everyone seems to rally around causes and to appreciate the important things in life. We feel blessed to be a part of this community, and we’re thankful for the people that support our business. It gives us great joy to be able to give back,” the Charbas said.
