Twenty years ago, members of the St. Paul United Methodist Church began an outreach to their neighborhood’s changing demographic population, starting the Wonderful Wednesday after-school program. As other needs emerged, a food pantry and clothes closet were established and were quickly followed by the St. Paul’s Pediatric Clinic, Andrew’s Park, and St. Paul’s Dental Clinic. In 1996, St. Paul Children’s Foundation was organized and incorporated to oversee and manage all of the children’s ministries.
Providing nutritious food, warm clothing, quality pediatric medical and dental care, and spiritual support, the St. Paul Children’s Foundation (SPCF) reaches out to more than 30,000 children a year in the Tyler area. David Brown is a member of the SPCF Board of Directors and the chairman of the Leadership Committee, which recently launched the SPCF Bridge Campaign to support private sector funding for SPCF health-care initiatives.
St. Paul Children’s Foundation has become the leading non-governmental provider of pediatric medical and dental care for indigent children of low-income families in Smith and surrounding counties,” Mr. Brown said. “The Bridge Campaign will help us provide this much-needed medical and dental care along with basic human needs to children and their families.”
Outside of his service to the SPCF, Mr. Brown is an advocate for the performing art culture in Tyler and supports The University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler Junior College, the Community Concert Association, and other groups that bring performing arts to our community.
Mr. Brown is originally from Tyler. He and his wife, Jayne, have been married 29 years and are the parents of three adult children, Joan, Jana, and Burns. Mr. Brown earned his associate’s degree from Tyler Junior College and received his bachelor in business administration degree from The University of Texas at Austin. Mr. and Mrs. Brown are members of Pollard United Methodist Church.
“Because of the blessings I have received in my life, I feel I have a moral duty to volunteer. I want to help, serve, and take care of other people in our community and beyond,” Mr. Brown said.
