In 1982, Living Alternatives was founded as a non-profit organization to help teenage women and their families deal successfully with unplanned pregnancies. The organization continues to serve the community with no-cost services through three distinctly different locations, the Pregnancy Resource Center, Fatherheart Maternity Home, and the Loving Alternative Adoption Agency. Living Alternatives brings hope and healing through practical help, friendship, maternity clothing, housing, parenting preparation, counseling, and adoption services when desired.
On Monday, October 11, Living Alternatives will host the Fourteenth Annual East Texas Challenge Charity Golf Tournament at Hollytree Country Club in Tyler. This year, Conley Brown is serving as facilitator for the annual golf tournament, planning, preparing, and recruiting the many volunteers required to make the event a success. Lunch is provided, and prizes for the longest drive and closest to the pin will be awarded. Door prizes will be given away, and raffle ticket holders have the chance to win tickets for four to a regular season Dallas Cowboy football game of their choice. All proceeds will benefit Living Alternatives.
“Not only is the East Texas Challenge a fun tournament to play in, but it serves a great purpose: offering hope and practical help to young women in a vulnerable and highly stressful situation,” Mr. Brown said.
Mr. Brown and his wife, Nancy, serve as house parents at Fatherheart Maternity Home and as missionaries for Youth With A Mission (YWAM). He also facilitates the Hope Open Adult and Junior Levels Tennis Tournament that takes place in the spring. The tennis tournament also benefits Living Alternatives.
“I enjoy what I am doing at Fatherheart,” Mr. Brown said. “It is rewarding to give your time to the Lord’s work and to see Him change lives. It is fulfilling to see the girls grow spiritually and emotionally while they are with us. My wife and I have always enjoyed working with young people.”
Born in Houston, Texas, Mr. Brown has lived in the Tyler area for four years. He holds a master of education degree. Mr. Brown and his wife have been married 40 years and are the parents of eight adult children. They are active members of Community Christian Fellowship Church.
“I enjoy the Tyler area and the people who live here. I feel the Lord has led me to Fatherheart to work with the girls as they face unplanned pregnancy,” Mr. Brown said.
