As a Tyler Junior College (TJC) alumnus and a member of the TJC Foundation Board of Directors, Paul Latta, D.D.S., P.C., is passionate about helping students pursue their dreams of a college education. Dr. Latta is serving as chairman for the 2010 HGR Contractors Scholarship Golf Tournament to be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club. All proceeds will benefit the TJC Foundation.
“The goal of the golf tournament is to raise funds to provide forty $1000 scholarships for deserving TJC students,” Dr. Latta said. “This year’s special guest for the pre-tournament luncheon will be Brad McCoy, father of The University of Texas football legend Colt McCoy.”
Dr. Latta is a member of the TJC School of Dental Hygiene Advisory Board and serves as chairman for the East Texas Medical Center Institutional Review Board. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the East Texas Dental Society, and the Smith County Dental Society. Dr. Latta has been a member of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) where he earned the AGD Fellowship Award. He is a graduate of Leadership Tyler, and past board president for both the Parent Services Center and Historic Tyler. Dr. Latta volunteers his dental services for Bethesda Health Clinic, St. Paul Children’s Foundation, Good Samaritan Outreach Center, Texas Mission of Mercy, and People Attempting to Help (PATH).
“I believe we all have God-given gifts that can be used to improve the lives of others. Also, you can never predict how your own life will be impacted through volunteerism. It’s amazing how your soul is strengthened when you make the effort to reach out to others,” said Dr. Latta.
Born in Freeport, Texas, Dr. Latta has lived in Tyler since the age of three. He is a graduate of John Tyler High School and earned his associate’s degree from TJC. He received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and his doctor of dental surgery degree from the Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Latta and Kay, his wife of 25 years, are the parents of Andrew, 16, and Matthew, 12. The Lattas are members of Calvary Baptist Church where Dr. Latta serves as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
“Tyler is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. We are so blessed to have a great variety of exceptional volunteer organizations and awesome people staffing them. Tyler provides an environment where it is very easy to reach out and be of service to others,” Dr. Latta said.
