Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) provides free dental treatment and eye examinations for low income families and individuals who cannot afford care. Their goal is to relieve pain, restore smiles, and improve vision. Volunteer dentists, dental professionals, eye care professionals, and volunteers donate their professional services.

David F. Nichols, DDS, first brought TMOM to Texas in 2001. Since then, more than 30 TMOM events have occurred throughout Texas. More than six million patients have been treated and twenty other states have now joined the project. On February 28 and March 1, at Bethesda Health Clinic in Tyler, TMOM will be offering their services and hope to treat more than 500 patients.

“Volunteering is a group activity,” Dr. Nichols said. “I’m excited to be associated with dozens of talented volunteers serving their fellowman.  The Christian atmosphere is evident and a blessing to all involved.”

Dr. Nichols has served on the Bethesda Health Clinic Board of Directors since 2010. He is the director of Tejas Missions, Inc., a domestic and international medical and dental mission. Dr. Nichols is a past president of the Tyler Rotary Club where he has been an active member for 29 years. He has been a member of the Smith County Dental Association for 41 years and is a past president of the organization.

Born in Atlanta, Texas, Dr. Nichols has resided in Tyler for 41 years. He and his wife, Julie, have been married for 46 years and are the parents of one adult daughter, Laura Culver, and the grandparents to three grandchildren. Dr. Nichols received his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and earned his doctor of dental surgery degree from The University of Tennessee. He is the owner of Kinsey Drive Dental Clinic. The Nichols are members of Marvin United Methodist Church.

“God has created each person with gifts to be used to serve others,” Dr. Nichols said.  “Serving others makes the world a better place, relieves suffering, and brings satisfaction to the ones who serve.”
