The East Texas Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America will host the annual East Texas Tenderfoot Golf Classic on Monday, July 21, at Hollytree Country Club in Tyler. This annual golf tournament is the premiere event to support the growing Scouting program in East Texas.
The East Texas Area Council (ETAC) covers 17 counties in East Texas and serves more than 7,000 youth by fostering development of character and integrity through fun and adventure. The Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, and Exploring programs offer area youth the opportunity to participate in activities that will provide a character-based learning foundation for leadership that they will utilize throughout their lives.
Robert Wilson is serving on the committee for the East Texas Tenderfoot Golf Classic and is a past member of the board of directors for the ETAC.
“The Boy Scouts of America is one of the best and most time-honored youth programs in the world,” Mr. Wilson said. “There’s no better organization for helping young people develop the values and leadership skills necessary to secure our future. I hope the community will support the East Texas Tenderfoot Golf Classic and this worthy cause by participating in the tournament.”
Mr. Wilson also serves as a host for the Suddenlink UT Tyler Patriot Million Dollar Hole in One competition and is a past co-chair of the event. He is a member of the board of directors for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County and is an alumnus of Leadership Tyler Class 12. Mr. Wilson is a current member and a past president of the Smith County Bar Association and a Fellow of the Smith County Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation.
“I’m motivated to give back to this community that has given me so much. It’s a legacy left to me by my grandfather and father, who both worked hard helping the people of Tyler and East Texas,” Mr. Wilson said. “Like parts of a whole, every contribution, no matter how small, forms the whole effort that changes lives. I pray that everyone who reads this feels moved to make that contribution which makes their community a little better.”
Mr. Wilson is a lifelong member of the Tyler community. He is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. He received his law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Wilson and his wife, Laura, are the parents of Emily, 11, and Luke, 7. The Wilsons are members of Marvin United Methodist Church. Mr. Wilson is an attorney and shareholder at the law firm Wilson, Robertson & Cornelius, P.C.
“Tyler is a good town with good people and is set in the prettiest part of Texas. Daily, I am amazed at how many members of our community selflessly give of themselves, just thankful for the opportunity to share with others and make a difference in their lives. It’s this attitude that really characterizes the generous spirit of our community and makes it so special,” said Mr. Wilson.
