On Saturday, February 23, at Maude Cobb Activity Center, Longview Habitat for Humanity will hold their 2013 Raisin’ the Roof Gala. This annual event brings the community together to raise funds for a deserving Habitat family to fulfill their dream of home ownership. Habitat provides decent, safe, and affordable housing for families who could not otherwise afford to build or buy a home and habitat board member Cindi-Marie Lewis is helping to make that dream of home ownership a reality. Mrs. Lewis invites the community to attend this year’s Raisin’ the Roof Gala in support of Habitat. Guests will enjoy dinner featuring inspired table themes by local “celebrity” waiters, an evening filled with music by Robin and the Bluebirds, and both a silent auction and a raffle.
“Volunteering is getting involved, being engaged, and getting connected with your community for having a positive impact on the lives of others,” Mrs. Lewis said.
As a tireless community volunteer, Mrs. Lewis lends her time as a member of Longview Greggton Rotary, serves on the Alley Fest hospitality committee, is a board member for the Gregg County Historical Museum, and is a Junior League of Longview sustainer. She is also a member of the Good Shepherd Medical Center guild and a volunteer at Trinity School of Texas.
“I volunteer because ‘to whom much is given, much is required,’ ” Mrs. Lewis said. “It gives me a sense of pride and fulfillment to volunteer in many areas of non-profit organizations. Longview is a fabulous place to live in, be a part of, and have a positive impact on those you serve and to share the grace and love of Jesus with all those with whom we come in contact daily.”
Mrs. Lewis was born in Longview and is a life-long resident. She is a graduate of Longview High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education from The University of Texas at Tyler. Mrs. Lewis taught kindergarten for 12 years. She has one son, Robbie, age 11. Mrs. Lewis has been a member of Mobberly Baptist Church since the sixth grade and she teaches a pre-teen Sunday school class.
“I consider it a privilege and a blessing to be a part of such a great city...Longview is a wonderful place to raise a family and call home,” Mrs. Lewis said.
