On Thursday, October 7, the doors of Maude Cobb Convention Center will open for the Christmas Corner Holiday Market, a fun and exciting event that kicks off the holiday shopping season! There will be an array of vendors presenting their wares, from epicurean food to kitchen items, fine jewelry to fun jewelry, and clothing and accessories to holiday décor. Christmas Corner will continue through Sunday, October 9, with a special Christmas Corner Preview Night to be held on Thursday evening, October 6, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Guests will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages and have the opportunity for early shopping without the crowds.
Christmas Corner is presented by Ovation, the Longview Symphony Guild, and all proceeds will benefit the Longview Symphony concert season. It takes a group of dedicated Ovation members to ensure the success of this annual fundraiser and Mrs. Priscilla Farr is one such member. She has proven over the years to be a staunch supporter of the Longview Symphony and the wonderful contribution the symphony makes in our community.
“I like a variety of music, but classical music trains the brain and increases creativity, harmonizing the soul and body,” Mrs. Farr said.
In addition to her involvement with Ovation, Mrs. Farr is a member of Moms In Touch International, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, serves as vice president of the Right-to-Life of East Texas, and is a member of the Republican Club.
“To whom much is given, much is required. That can be through time, talent, resources, job expertise, or love of country and fellow man. Whatever God has bestowed on us, we are responsible to use it to honor and glorify Him. For as long as we consume air into our lungs, God has a plan and purpose for each life,” Mrs. Farr said.
Mrs. Farr was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and has lived in Longview for eight years. She graduated from Clyde A. Erwin High School in Leicester, N.C., and earned her bachelor of science degree at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, N.C. Mrs. Farr and her husband of 44 years, Dr. Jim Farr, have two adult children and five grandsons. As a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church, Mrs. Farr is involved with outreach ministry; sings in both the church choir and the ladies ensemble, Mercy Sounds; serves on the Christian Life Committee; is active in Sunday school; and participates in Bible Study Fellowship International, both in discussion and children’s leadership.
“We came to East Texas for my husband’s work with the Veterans Affairs Clinic. It was a tremendous opportunity for him to be of service and minister to our veterans,” Mrs. Farr said. “It is a real blessing and treat to come alongside the many wonderful, caring citizens who desire that Longview be the best possible community in East Texas-maybe in all of Texas.”
The Longview Symphony is an important part of the cultural tapestry of community life and Christmas Corner is a great way to take part in supporting the Longview Symphony. Please call the symphony office, 903-236-9739, for more information on Christmas Corner or Preview Night.
