Inspired in her volunteer service to the community by the words of her mother, Mrs. Beverly A. Marshall said, “My mother taught me a long time ago to love life and people. That’s where the fun was! . . . Volunteering has afforded me the opportunity to make people smile, and me too in the process. I love it!”
And making people smile is what Mrs. Marshall does as a volunteer at nursing homes and assisted living facilities in our community. The residents at Whispering Pines, Clairmont, Highland Pines, and Alpine House enjoy playing a variety of games, including bingo, led by Mrs. Marshall. She also spends time with the residents doing arts and crafts projects. This gives residents the opportunity to interact with others in a fun and relaxing setting. It is reassuring for family members to know their grandparent, parent, spouse, or sibling are enjoying some of the simple pleasures of life.
Born in Houston, Texas, Mrs. Marshall has lived in Longview for ten years. She graduated from Kashmere High School in Houston and attended Houston Community College. Mrs. Marshall and her husband, Jack, have been married 38 years and have two adult children, daughter, Tamara, and son, Derrick; daughter-in-law Leticia; and two granddaughters, Brea and Jazslyn, both nine. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall are avid golfers and enjoy golfing with their granddaughters.
“I love Longview and I love the people in Longview. I enjoy spending my free time with other people because I enjoy being around people,” Mrs. Marshall said.
And Longview is blessed to have a volunteer such as Mrs. Marshall to smile, laugh, and play to brighten someone’s day.
