On Thursday evening, May 5, the Pine Tree Education Foundation (PTEF) & Alumni Community will host the Seventh Annual Beacon Awards Banquet.  This special event recognizes and honors teachers not only for their excellence in the classroom, but also for making a difference in the life of a child.  Honorees are selected from the hundreds of student essays submitted to the foundation by Pine Tree students who were asked to write about their favorite teacher or school employee.  The banquet will be held at Pinecrest Country Club, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  All proceeds from the banquet will go to support the annual Grants for Teaching Excellence Awards.

Mr. Ron Hutchison is involved in supporting and promoting excellence in the Pine Tree Independent School District (PTISD) through his involvement with the PTEF.  He is currently serving on the board of directors as vice president of the foundation Capital Drive. It is the desire of the foundation board to provide long-term stability for PTEF.  The board is challenging alumni and the Pine Tree community to establish long-term investments through endowments as a way to provide long-term benefits for students and teachers.

“These permanent funds will be used to fund innovative learning strategies for future generations,” Mr. Hutchison said.  “I believe in education excellence for our schools.”

Mr. Hutchison is also heavily involved with the “Move Pine Tree Forward” bond campaign.

In addition to his dedication and commitment to the PTISD, Mr. Hutchison has served on the board of directors for the Junior Achievement of East Texas. As Managing Partner and Chairman of the Board for NetworkIP and Network Communications, Mr. Hutchison encourages company employees to also be actively involved in their communities.

Originally from Dumas, Texas, Mr. Hutchison has lived in Longview for 20 years.  He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas Tech University and is also a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Hutchison and his wife, Lana, have been married 33 years and are the parents of four daughters, Lauren, Amanda, Emily, and Samantha.  The family attends Alpine Church of Christ, where Mr. Hutchison has been involved in mission trips to Haiti, Mozambique, Mexico, and El Salvador.

“Having grown up in the Texas panhandle, I have a great appreciation for the trees and water we have in East Texas,” Mr. Hutchison said.  “Longview is a great place to raise a family.  It truly is a slice of heaven.”
