On Saturday, October 23, runners, walkers, goblins and ghosts will gather at the Courthouse Athletic Club to participate in the first ever Monster Dash
to benefit the Junior League of Longview (JLL). Sharla Visage, Junior League president, invites the community to join in the fun in support of this fundraising event. Proceeds raised through the Monster Dash
allows Junior League to place trained volunteers in the community and ultimately change lives of those who live in Longview and the surrounding communities.
“I lived in a bubble until I started volunteering in my community,” Mrs. Visage said. “Through my work with Junior League, my eyes have been opened to families who struggle with special needs children, women who have experienced domestic violence, and how poverty and homelessness exists right here in Longview. I cannot ignore what I have seen and work passionately to help others.”
In addition to her service to JLL, Mrs. Visage volunteers with Windridge Therapeutic Equestrian Center and the women’s shelter. She recently assisted The House of Disciples in securing funding for a kitchen renovation.
“The generous volunteer spirit and the compassionate hearts of the Longview community make it a wonderful place to serve others,” Mrs. Visage said.
Originally from Marshall, Mrs. Visage graduated from Marshall High School and has lived in Longview 13 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in human resource management with a minor in corporate communications from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Mrs. Visage and her husband, Thomas, have been married for ten years and have two children, Molly, 6, and Tom, 4. The family attends First Baptist Church of Longview.
“League members hear me say all the time, ‘If you want to go fast…go alone. If you want to go far…go together.’ The Junior League has accomplished incredible tasks throughout our 71 year history,” Mrs. Visage said. “We are successful because of our talented and trained volunteers, our generous donors, our community partnerships, and the support of our great community.”
