The first day of autumn has arrived and that means the holiday season is not far behind. Christmas Corner will kick off the holiday shopping season on Thursday, October 7, at Maude Cobb Convention Center and will continue through Saturday, October 9. This annual fun and festive event is presented by Ovation, the Longview Symphony Guild, and all proceeds benefit the Longview Symphony Concert Season.
Co-chairs for this year’s Christmas Corner, Lynette Goodson and Sally Rathbun, are both long-time supporters of the Longview Symphony. They invite the community to visit and shop a wide variety of vendors showcasing their merchandise; from fine jewelry and antiques to epicurean food and kitchen items; from clothing and accessories to Mexican pewter and original pottery. Plan to relax and enjoy lunch or dinner at the Christmas Corner kitchen.
A special Christmas Corner Preview Night will be held on Wednesday evening, October 6, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Guests will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, beverages, special drawings, and the opportunity for early shopping.
Ms. Goodson is vice president of development for the Longview Symphony. She serves as president for Preservation Longview, a not-for-profit organization that was formed to restore, preserve, and promote historic Longview, and is the founder of Historic Longview Farmers Market. Ms. Goodson also volunteers with Longview Community Ministries and has traveled to Guatemala eight times with Refuge International.
Originally from Henderson, Texas, Ms. Goodson attended Kilgore College, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business in Los Angeles. She is the owner of Full House Marketing.
Mrs. Rathbun serves as secretary for Longview Community Ministries and volunteers at Newgate Mission and Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network. She has served the past eight years as a group leader and mentor with Forever Friends and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, where she has served as chairman for the Women Build.
Born in Thomasville, North Carolina, Mrs. Rathbun moved to Longview as a teenager and graduated from Longview High School. She attended The University of Texas at Austin, majoring in elementary education, and received her master’s degree in library science from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Mrs. Rathbun is a retired teacher and librarian from Longview Independent School District. She and her husband of 33 years, Casey, have one adult daughter.
Ms. Goodson and Mrs. Rathbun agree that volunteering allows each of us to make a difference in the community and brings the opportunity to meet and make new friends.
