Lights. Camera. Action! Summer is in full swing at ArtsView Children’s Theater with a full schedule including seven performances and several academies and workshops. Established in 2004, this not-for-profit organization’s mission is to change lives through education, outreach, and the performing arts.
As a founding member of the board of directors, Bonnie Capshaw has touched the lives of numerous aspiring actors and actresses. Using her seamstress talent, she has served as costume designer of the production company, and, when necessary, will oversee the production of the costumes as costume manager. She is also involved with the workshops and is looking forward to the “Clowning Around” workshop to be held in August.
“I have loved seeing it (ArtsView) grow into what it is today,” Mrs. Capshaw said. “It is a magical place for children to learn about the theatre; not just on the stage, but also the technical and design aspect of what goes on off stage.”
In addition to her commitment to ArtsView, Mrs. Capshaw is a member of the Pine Tree Parent Teacher Association, volunteers at Pine Tree school, and is a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Originally from Moody, Texas, Mrs. Capshaw has lived in Longview 23 years. She graduated from Moody High School, attended McLennan Community College in Waco, and received her bachelor of business administration degree from Baylor University. Mrs. Capshaw, and her husband of 28 years, S. Calvin, are the parents of two daughters, Amanda, 22, and Hannah, 14.
“Longview is blessed with many talented individuals that both volunteer and work at ArtsView. They love to share their theatre experience and enthusiasm with the children and the community,” Mrs. Capshaw said.
