While we enjoyed the unseasonably cooler temperatures in July, August is here with the full force of the Texas summer heat. On Tuesday, August 26, make plans to enjoy dinner at your favorite restaurant in support of Longview Community Ministries Too Hot to Cook fundraiser. This event helps promote awareness of the continuing and increasing hunger issues in our community.
Longview Community Ministries (LCM) board of director’s member and current vice president, Regina Mixon, invites the community to dine at one of 17 area restaurants participating in this annual fundraiser. Your support in dining out enables the participating restaurants to make a donation to the food pantry in support of the LCM food box ministry. This ministry depends on donations of food and money from individuals, organizations, and businesses to help feed those in need in our community.
“It’s amazing to see how our community comes together when there is a need,” Mrs. Mixon said. “God has blessed us with so much, the least we can do is give back to our community.”
Born in Waverly, Tennessee, Mrs. Mixon has been a member of the Longview community for seven years. She is a graduate of Gateway Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee, and Texas Baptist College, here in Longview. Mrs. Mixon is a personal banker for BancorpSouth. She and her husband, Robert, have been married five years, and they attend Calvary Baptist Church where Mrs. Mixon serves as an Awanas Club leader. She is also a member of Young Professionals of Longview.
“There are so many opportunities to volunteer in Longview,” Mrs. Mixon said. “If you don’t have a place to volunteer, I encourage you to contact Longview Community Ministries, where we always need volunteers.”
