LONGVIEW

07/27/14

Each summer, the Greater Longview United Way (GLUW) partners with area organizations and businesses willing to take on the challenge to “jump start” the annual campaign by becoming a Pacesetter.  Pacesetter companies are energetic about taking a leadership role and setting the standard for community support.  They hope to inspire other organizations and businesses to follow their lead when holding their own campaigns.

Chris Davis is helping to carry out the GLUW mission by serving as the 2014 pacesetter chair after serving as a co-chair for last year’s campaign. Through the efforts of Mr. Davis and the Pacesetter companies, they are uniting the caring power of the community to create a real and lasting change.

Mr. Davis also lends his time to the Boy Scouts of America East Texas Area Council campaign, the March of Dimes campaign, and he participated in the 2013 Longview Chamber of Commerce Total Resource campaign.

“Volunteerism is using the gift of service to meet the needs of others, while sharing the love that God has instilled in each of us in order to change the world,” Mr. Davis said.

Born and reared in Longview, Mr. Davis graduated from Hallsville High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.  He is an assistant vice president and electronic banking manager for Texas Bank and Trust. Mr. Davis and his wife, Cassie, have been married seven years and have two daughters, Mckenzie, 5, and Harper, 1.  The family attends Mobberly Baptist Church where Mr. Davis serves as a small group leader.

“I love East Texas because it has always been home and it has so much to offer,” Mr. Davis said.  “There are so many people and organizations that enjoy serving our community and it is rewarding to be a part of something bigger than myself. ‘Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life-a ransom for many.’”Matthew 20:28
