For more than 135 years, Buckner Children and Family Services has provided services to meet the needs of orphans, at-risk children, and families who need love, safety, and support. This ministry adheres to Christian principles, and through their innovative and determined methods, ensures every person they serve has the opportunity to succeed.
On July 10-12, Texas Bank and Trust will host the 15th Annual Sporting Clays Challenge to benefit Buckner Children and Family Services of East Texas.
“One hundred percent of the money raised stays in East Texas to help with foster care, adoption, and programs benefitting vulnerable families,” said Mr. Black, a volunteer for this year’s event. “The amount of money raised from this clay shoot alone covers more than half of the local annual budget for Buckner.”
In addition to his commitment to Buckner, Mr. Black is a member of the Greggton Rotary Club, serves as vice president of the Pine Tree Education Foundation, and is a graduate of Leadership Longview. He is also a board member and current treasurer for House of Disciples Life Recovery Center, a ministry for the homeless or those struggling with addictions.
“I volunteer because I enjoy offering my time and talents to benefit people and organizations in need,” Mr. Black said. “Most of the time, I believe that I will be helping someone or some cause, however, after serving I am the one that usually receives a greater blessing.”
Mr. Black is a Longview native and a graduate of Pine Tree High School and Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He is a broker with JBA Financial Services. Mr. Black and his wife, Crista, have been married eight years and have two children, daughter Cameron, 5, and son Connor, 4. The family attends First Baptist Church where Mr. Black serves as a Deacon.
“My wife and I enjoy living in East Texas because of the people! The people in East Texas are very generous, hardworking, and easy to get to know,” Mr. Black said.
