Texas Bank and Trust celebrates the thirty-sixth anniversary of Student Board of Directors, recognizing outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. We are proud to introduce the following members of the 2013-2014 Student Board.
Chandler Chappell is a senior at Pine Tree High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society and president of the state award-winning Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) team. He is also class vice president and treasurer of BUCS, a service-based organization. Chandler participates on the University Interscholastic League (UIL) social studies team and is involved with Partners in Learning Success (PALS), Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY), the academic decathlon, and the cross-country team. Outside of school, Chandler takes part in the local and national Youth Leadership Conferences and the Longview Teen Court. He will be attending The University of Texas at Austin to study either pre-medicine or biology. Chandler is the son of Lezli and Geoff Chappell.
Jenelle Kral, daughter of Dr. Jon and Shelley Kral, will graduate this spring from Longview High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society and the International Baccalaureate Program. She is the mixed doubles district champion and United States Tennis Association Champion on the varsity tennis team. Outside of school, Jenelle in involved with the Letourneau University Youth Leadership Conference and both the youth band and youth choir. In her community, she has made blankets for House of Hope and pies for Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network (LIHN), and volunteers at the Good Samaritan House. Jenelle plans to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, to study international business. She was elected to serve as the Student Board of Directors secretary for this school year.
Jewel Hewitt is a senior at Longview High School where she is a member of the National Society of School Scholars and the National Honor Society. She has been recognized in the President’s Education Awards Program for Outstanding Academic Excellence and was also awarded the United States Achievement Academy Award. Jewell is a member of the Lady Lobo varsity cheerleading squad. She is involved with the Kilgore Garden Club and has also been recognized as a Lamplighter honoree. Jewel plans to attend Tyler Junior College to study pre-medicine. She is the daughter of Lana and Eric Hewitt.
Jackson Schaap, son of Whitney and Troy Schaap, is graduating valedictorian this spring from Longview High School where he is a member and officer of the nationally-ranked Technology Student Association (TSA). He is also a member of the National Honor Society, the International Baccalaureate Program, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) math team, and the Interact club. Jackson is a cellist in both the school orchestra and the Longview Area Youth Symphony Orchestra (LAYSO). He has been awarded the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and recently recognized as a Commended National Merit Scholar. Jackson serves as a youth volunteer at First Baptist Church in Longview. He has been accepted to Rice University where he will study mathematical finance. Jackson was elected to serve as the Student Board of Directors vice chairman for this school year.
