Christy Gibson
TYLER

Christy Gibson’s background as a certified public accountant and her involvement with the East Texas Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (ETCTSCPA) has focused her volunteer efforts on providing opportunities and scholarships for local accounting students.

Mrs. Gibson is serving as chair for the ETCTSCPA’s 2009 Scholarship Golf Tournament, which will be held at the Pine Dunes Resort & Golf Club in Frankston on Monday, October 26. Lunch will begin at 11:00 a.m., with registration starting at noon. The four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

“Because of this annual fundraising effort, we are able to provide scholarships to local accounting students,” Mrs. Gibson said. “Over the past five years, the Chapter has provided over $54 thousand in scholarship funds to students in a 20-county area. We have the potential to make an impact on many lives and help create a highly qualified workforce.”

Mrs. Gibson also serves the ETCTSCPA as the organization’s first vice president and has served as secretary/treasurer and as the continuing professional education chair. She also serves in a mentoring program through the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.  Mrs. Gibson’s other volunteer organizations have included the Salvation Army, the Bethesda Health Clinic, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  In Henderson County, Mrs. Gibson volunteers with the Angel Food Network, serves as a 4-H Ambassador for community service projects, and assists with the 4-H Adult Leaders and Parents Association.

“I believe volunteering is an opportunity to help someone other than yourself, and in doing so, you help yourself by feeling needed,” Mrs. Gibson said.

Born in Henderson, Texas, Mrs. Gibson is a graduate of Arp High School and attended Tyler Junior College.  She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from The University of Texas at Tyler, where she is a member of the alumni association and has served on the scholarship committee. Mrs. Gibson is married to Jody Gibson.

As a volunteer in Tyler and beyond, Christy Gibson has learned that there are a myriad of opportunities to utilize one’s talents.  “By discovering your passion and purpose, you can focus your strengths on worthwhile causes and really make a difference for others,” Mrs. Gibson said.
