Longview Community Ministries, Inc., (LCM) serves as an organization to enable Longview congregations and groups to work together more effectively in the community through cooperative acts of service to assist persons in need, regardless of race, religion, or creed.
No one is more passionate about meeting the needs of the people in our community than Mrs. Tammy Mitchell, who has been involved with LCM for several years and this year is serving as president of the board. “I believe that if we are to prosper and be blessed in this life, we must show compassion and share our blessings by using our time and talents to help those in need,” she said. Mrs. Mitchell is also a board member with the East Texas Literacy Council and a member of the Leadership Longview Planning Committee, and helps serve meals at the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission. “Volunteering requires commitment and work, but it’s very rewarding to know that I’m helping to make this community a better place to live,” Mrs. Mitchell said. A Longview native, Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Longview High School and received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from LeTourneau University. She and her husband, Carlton, have been married 13 years and she has three adult sons. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell attend Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. “I grew up in Longview and know so many people here. Volunteering is an opportunity to work with old friends and develop new relationships. It’s only fitting that I give back to the community that I love so much,” she said. LCM will host LCM Week and Open House, April 19-26, to highlight their facility and what they offer to the Longview community. Activities will be held throughout the week and the open house will be held April 22, from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Please call 903-753-3561 for more information. |
