East Texas Child Advocates, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization devoted to helping abused and neglected children in East Texas. The organization strives to create a positive future for the lives of children through two programs: East Texas Court –Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which recruits and trains community volunteers to advocate for the best interest of the child who has been removed from their home and placed in foster care; and Getting Together Safely, which allows children to visit their non-custodial parent in a safe and non-threatening environment. As a trained advocate, CASA volunteer Lindy Bass has touched the lives of many East Texas children through her volunteer efforts over the past five years. She is a voice for the child in court and devotes her time, energy, and resources to ensure that the best interests of the children she represents are being met. Mrs. Bass meets with the family, the foster care provider, and the child’s school. She makes reports to the court, recommending what she believes is best for the child. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where they can thrive. “I try to help other children and their families as I would hope someone would help me and my family if we have problems,” Mrs. Bass said. Mrs. Bass was born in Houston and has lived in Kilgore for the past 15 years. She and her husband, Mark, have been married 32 years and have three adult daughters and four grandchildren. They attend Post Oak Road Church of Christ in Kilgore, where Mrs. Bass assists with children’s Bible classes and Vacation Bible School. |
