On Saturday, April 10, the Friends of Windridge committee will welcome visitors to Horse & Rider 2010, an annual fundraiser to benefit the Windridge Therapeutic Equestrian Center. Windridge is dedicated to improving the lives of those who face life with a mental, cognitive, or physical disability, and/or a life-debilitating situation through equine therapy—a partnership of horse and rider. The fundraiser will include an opportunity to see the students perform and celebrate their achievements. Horse & Rider 2010 will also honor our country, veterans, and the men and women serving in our armed services. A raffle, silent auction, and children’s activities will complete the afternoon. Carolyn Russell has been a member of Friends of Windridge for 16 years and she encourages one and all to attend Horse & Rider 2010. “It will be a pleasurable afternoon, observing the rider’s horsemanship skills, touring the Windridge facility, and seeing the new research room,” Mrs. Russell said. “All of our students are beneficiaries of this remarkable program that yields extraordinary results, and no one is turned away because of inability to pay.” Mrs. Russell was born in Longview, but raised in Ft. Worth. She and her late husband, Ralph, returned to Longview in 1968, after his retirement. Mrs. Russell attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri, and Texas Christian University. She has three adult children, and is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she serves as chair of the Coffee House on Sundays and assistant buyer for the gift shop. Over the years, Mrs. Russell, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Longview, has been an active community volunteer. “I had good memories of Longview from my visits back here as a child. Ralph and I decided it would be a good place to raise our three boys,” Mrs. Russell said. |
