LIVE UNITED. The Greater Longview United Way (GLUW), in partnership with area businesses and organizations, is uniting our caring community to create real and lasting change. GLUW board member Amy Taylor is working to carry out the United Way mission. She is serving as 2010 Campaign-Industrial, Communications, and Utilities Division Co-Chair of the organizations annual fundraising campaign, which will kick off on September 9. The donations received through this campaign fuel the activities of both the GLUW and its programs throughout the coming year.
Mrs. Taylor also serves the GLUW as interim secretary on the executive committee and is a member on the Community Solutions Team-Income. She serves on the board of directors for the Longview Child Development Center. In utilizing her expertise as a human resources senior manager with Neiman Marcus, she serves on the Longview Economic Development Corporation Human Resource Alliance and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
“If you see a problem or issue in the community that bothers or unnerves you, you should get involved,” Mrs. Taylor said. “So many of the societal issues today are interrelated. From my perspective, solutions will only come when the community seeks to understand and attacks the problem together. That’s where organizations like the United Way are critical.”
Originally from Carthage, Texas, Mrs. Taylor has lived in Longview for ten years. She is a graduate of Carthage High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in English/History with a minor in business from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Mrs. Taylor and her husband, Phil, are the parents of Lane, 14, Whitney, 8, and Ashton, 4.
“I grew up in East Texas and made the decision to stay here because I love the place and its people,” Mrs. Taylor said. “I want to be around down-to-earth people who are willing to push up their shirt-sleeves and do what needs to be done. I want to raise my kids that way.”
